Decisions, Decisions, Decisions ...........

Updated: Nov 24, 2020

Now, more than ever, a lot of people are expecting to have to make some significant decisions in the not too distant future, some potentially life changing. We often face the uncertainty of not knowing exactly what we are going to have to decide until circumstances are almost upon us and then feel pressured into making a snap decision because we have no choice but to do so.

Acknowledging there may be a pattern here, perhaps now is the time to reflect, not so much on the decisions we may have to make, but, more importantly, on HOW I MAKE DECISIONS. Consider this as an investment for all time rather than looking for a few tips on how to make snap decisions.

Here are a few thought starters to kick off you imagination:-

  • How have I made a few recent decisions

  • What is my personality type

  • Am I a lone agent or a collaborator

  • Am I impulsive or considered

  • How does my mind assess situations

  • Do I use gut feel or data

  • Am I decisive or do I tend to procrastinate

And a few ways in which you might use the answers above:-

  • I struggle to make a decision quickly - allow more time ?

  • I am a reflecter - get your criteria squared off quicker ?

  • I am an island - involve someone else earlier in the process ?

  • I struggle with data - ask someone how to select criteria and use them ?

  • I am impulsive - hold yourself to account for a minimum reflection period ?

Before you make a decision allow time for REFLECTION, before and after your evaluation activities, and consider using a friend, confidante or mentor (ideally someone with a different personality make up to yourself) as a sounding block to look though you pending decision(s) through a different set of eyes.
